Become a member of ACTION for Battered Women in Ohio, a coalition of concerned individuals and domestic violence programs and workers. ACTION provides legislative alerts and information to keep people up to date on potential and actual legislation that might have an impact on shelters and their residents, provides numerous in-services on a state and district level, and holds an annual conference. The Athens Women's Collective is an organization of Athens, Ohio women representing a variety of backgrounds, interests, and purposes. We join forces to transform the attitudes of sexism in society, to support and promote services and activities of particular interest to women, and to provide a space in which social and political alignment and support are freely offered. Cassandra is a new, national, radical feminist nurses network which provides an open forum and support for feminist nurses from all levels and aspects of the profession. Women in nursing practice, education and research, from LPN's to Ph.D.'s, are invited to join. Cleveland NOW program and general membership meetings are held on the second Monday of each month beginning at 8:00 p.m. at the First Unitarian Church, 21600 Shaker Blvd. at the corner of Belvoir Blvd. Board meetings are held on the fourth Monday of every month at 8:00 p.m. at the first English Lutheran Church, 2419 Euclid Hts. Blvd. at the corner of Derbyshire.

Dignity, an organization for Catholic and other Christian gay women and men, welcomes new members. Meetings are at Hallinan Center, CWRU, the second and fourth Thursday of each month, beginning with a women's meeting at 7:00 p.m. and Mass and a program at 8:00 p.m. For more information, call Patti at 321-9456.

The CWRU Lesbian and Gay Student Union meets every Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m. in Room B (Second Floor) of Thwing Center, 11111 Euclid Avenue (the next building east of Severance Hall). A professionally facilitated rap session is held approximately every three weeks. CWRU students, faculty, staff and friends and all others are welcome to participate in this organization's educational, support and social activities. Hard Hatted Women Is a support and information-sharing group for wornen working in or actively seeking non-traditional blue-collar jobs. Not all these jobs are actually "hard-hatted" or blue collar, but all-age nonmanagerial. Group members work in heavy industrial, manual and skilled technical jobs that traditionally have been held by men. Hard Hatted Women meets the fourth Sunday of the month from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. at WomenSpace. The Lesbian and Gay Academic Union meets on the last Sunday of each month at 3:30 in Room 506 of the Sears Library Building (on the CWRU campus opposite Strosacker Auditorium). This organization maintains ar chives, conducts lesbianand gay-related research and provides a networking device for Cleveland area college students, academics and other interested persons. Parents of the Gay Educational Awareness Resources (GEAR) Foundation have formed a chapter of Parents of Gays. POG members are meeting to explore their feelings about gay family members, supporting GEAR Foundation activities, and inviting members of the GEAR Speakers Bureau to address clubs and professional organizations. The Pro-Choice Action Committee is an activist organization dedicated to fighting for full reproductive rights for all women. We support legal, safe and funded abortions for all women regardless of age or marital status. We oppose sterilization abuse and population control schemes. Reproductive rights include the right to safe and effective methods of contraception, and the right to decent low-cost quality child care. We support lesbian liberation and oppose all forms of racism in society. The Pro-ChoiceAction Committee meets monthly and all are welcome to our meetings. For more information, write PCAC, P.O. Women, Together, Inc., operator of a shelter for battered women that houses approximately 200 women and 400 children per year, has a new volunteer program called "Sponsorship". Volunteer sponsors are assigned women who call the hotline and shelter residents upon their departure.. Volunteers accompany clients to groups for abused women and help provide emotional support. If you are interested in training for the sponsorship program, call Fay Grinage at 431-6267.

Women in Skilled Employment (WISE) is a program at WomenSpace aimed at increasing opportunities for women in non-traditional jobs. If you are interested in exploring any aspect of blue collar work for women. be it applying for a job yourself or helping other women get and keep nontraditional jobs, please call Amy at 696-6967.

Essays, poetry, andpersonal narratives from women over 40 who are outside the traditional family structure, who have chosen to break the patterns of tradition and see themselves an autonomous women are sought for inclusion in an anthology. The purpose of the anthology is to show the processes involved in developing our life styles, moving past our victimization, and how we deal with the issues in our lives as we become empowered as women.
